Fibre Optic Temperature Measurement

Fibre optic technology measures the signal produced by the scattering of light along an optical fibre. The Hitele fibre optic systems supplied by Pyrosales can provide a profile of temperature along a fibre for lengths of up to 30km. The fibre can also be divided into zones as small as one metre to provide temperature profiles for specific areas. The fibres have a temperature accuracy of +/- 1ºC and can operate between -200ºC and 500ºC. Fibre optic systems are also intrinsically safe and allow for remote operation.
Fibre optic technology can help to maintain process control and ensure safety. Typical applications include monitoring temperature on power cables, fire detection, hot spot monitoring, leak detection, geothermal wells, process monitoring and construction.
